Bahag, Quilts or Grass Skirt?

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

Here goes again re: my igorot heritage.  When we were younger, some of us would be embarassed about the culture of men’s clothes of the G-string.  The G-String is the native’s men’s wear.  Aside from the very "sexy" or skimpy look, maybe some are emrassed because of how it looks.  But then i began to wonder again, would this embarssment same with the Scotchs about their quilts? I have no idea.  Or the Hawaiians about the grass skirts.  So he may speak up if he reads this part of my blog :D

ano ba yan pa-english english pa!

Friday, August 25th, 2006

When i was younger i thought that when you speak in English you sound so sossy .. at times you may heard someone saying anu b yan pangenglish english pa
and then i realized staying in a country where your physical pictures look like the locals just like Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.  The only way you can talk to them is the English language because it is the universal language (supposedly), aside from what they say that love and the numbers are the universal language., that or choose to learn and speak the native language.

I was thinking earlier i was talking to a colleague in the elevator and then its like number of curiuos eyes would dart me to look who was that person speaking in english, then look at you strangely from head to toe…theni realized they maybe saying in their minds "ano ba eto paenglisg english pa!" heheh .. naisip ko lang
so i guess we need well maybe yes i know that there are some of us Pinoys who speak english from birth but what i am saying is that their are some of us, including me before that whenever we think someone is speaking english kala mo sossy … sometimes we have to learn that they maybe foreigners that look like us … :)
im happy at last they do not think that i am from Indonesia now (funny that i am in their country.. well maybe because they know how a local looks like) they told me…"so you are from thailand?" hehe .. thank you :D

un lng :)

Getting older and getting wiser …

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

This year, I have a nice anecdote I love everbody so I wanted Philippine workers to rest and so HOliday was declared.  Oh guess what? Another blessing is I also declared today as holiday in the location i am celebrating my birthday!

My first time to spend a birthday away from my home country alone.  i went out of the country once during my birthday as my gift to myself but i wasnt alone, i went with good friends.  Now .. alone …will spend it just like any other ordinary day.. a nice gift and blessing I am out of the country for the challenges and additional experience again

I remember that during my 21st bday I forgot it was my bday not until the end of the day’s work I asked my friend the date and i was screaming heyits my bday today I forgot, they thought i was crazy and joking.. taht was a funny day ..
At least i do not feel melancholic I grow a year older and so? Time before when i was enjoying bieng the youngest and only girl in the team … now not anymore I am getting older.  When i ask some colleagues and partners how old they are and they say their age which is 1 or 2 years younger than me

I did not notice that years went by that fast

I had my time, I enjoyed the memories when i was younger, i thought those years i was savoring it won’t end …

I dont regret getting older. at 27… 3 more years before the age of 30 .. but who cares .. I still look young (i guess) because i am petite hehe!

My birthday cake = laptop, my party = hotel room alone not bad still blessings i should thank of, rather than having a party around people who are not true to me
Another thing at least i think that I am growing mature with my age, i will try my best to move forward and grow of how nature and an individual is suppose to be… i hope not to be like some people in their 30s who do not even know what the difference of right and wrong, i pray hard that i wish i will never be like them.

Blessings, good family, good friends, good health, nice continous career, love, inner peace, happiness, will to be able to forgive and spritual blessing is alot that i ask for my birthday which i wish i could impart to those people close to me and i love for tomorrow i am older and passed like nothing just happened … just another year on my age … i hope more wisdom (oh yea i think i am smart and know better for sure)

5 different employers, 5 different jobs, about 10 different room mates, transferred houses 6x, left a home twice, rejected for job application many times, failed number of times ill get there … i love life and wow! im already 27 …

Cheers!

Leo natives are proud, energetic and confident…persons who adore being the center of attention. These are basically firebrands with an abundance of smoulder in their eyes and ones who appear to be surrounded by a golden aura. Those governed by Leo will be focused upon their work and make for excellent team leaders. Such individuals are likely to also be risk-takers (although usually not unless the odds are heavily stacked in their favor since they hate to lose and look bad) who desire the world and often get it. Whether it be for a large project or a noble cause, anyone persuading a Leo subject to "jump on board" will have made a shrewd move and one that is sure to attract attention. Leo subjects cannot help but find themselves in the limelight courtesy of their larger-than-life personality and a positive attitude which is infectious. There is an abundance of personality and magnetism associated with this Sign which lends the power to sway great audiences…not so much in what Leo natives will say (since their speeches often contain nothing intellectual or necessarily enlightening), but rather in the manner in which it is said, enabling them to keep in touch with their audiences and possessing the ability to arouse latent sympathy…frequently moving others to tears or laughter at will. Leo individuals are likely to be fond of grandeur and power, harboring aspirations to attain lofty positions in life. This applies particularly to Leo males. Business instincts of Leo natives will be keen and despite the fact that their judgment in important matters is frequently too hasty, they do seem to be better fitted by nature to rule rather than be ruled. The placing of responsibility upon the shoulders of these individuals will cause them to display true worth and real executive ability. Colleagues will often be quick to seek out those ruled by Leo to serve as role models since such natives possess signature qualities of leadership, coupled with truth and justice. However, it is important that Leo natives not indulge in selfishness or manipulation…or descend into a state of complacency. As much as those who fall beneath the jurisdiction of Leo like being in the spotlight, they are amenable to working within a team. Any office inhabited by a Leo native is likely to be grand in scale…a chair resembling a throne located behind the gleaming mahogany desk and a well-stocked liquor cabinet in the corner. Born to direct, command, lead, impose justice, create, express and communicate, one of the missions in the life of a Leo individual is to teach others to work for personal ambitions and personal happiness. However, these natives are far better fitted for mental labor rather than the physical. The inherent pride associated with those governed by this Sign helps those with whom they come in contact to realize that real love starts within oneself.
Leo natives tend to succeed extremely well in any career which allows them a platform from which they can pontificate. Being ruled by the Element of Fire, these individuals are very independent and resent being commanded or controlled in any manner. They possess keen business instincts despite the fact that their judgment in important matters may occasionally be somewhat hasty. In general, these are positive rather than agressive souls…ones who are constructive rather than radical. Natural philanthropists, those governed by Leo delight in working for the advancement and uplifting of humanity as a whole. Insistent upon personal freedom, these natives are always eager to lead others in thought and action. By nature, Leo subjects are exceedingly independent and will often resent being commanded. They seem to exceed extraordinarily well as chemists or physicans. Due to their empathy and high ideals, they will easily attract and retain patients, whom they have the ability to inspire with gentle ministrations. Some of the most skilled nurses in the world may be found under this Sign, including Jean H. Dunant of France, founder of The Red Cross.

Its name may derive from the Latin leo or the Greek leon, both of which mean "lion." However, the name is likely Semitic in origin…from the Hebrew word, labi. Leo is known as the "royal sign," symbolic of exuberance and leadership, and individuals who fall within its jurisdiction place courage and personal honesty above all else.  The fiery temperament of a Leo subject is typical of the Zodiac’s fire group…fire being the element which rules this sign. There are few people who fail to be attracted to the Leos of this world since they are indeed likeable individuals, being frank, open, honest and endearing. Of all the Zodiac Signs, it is Leo which is most known for dedication to an ideal. There is a tendency here toward a drowning in egocentricity and materialism, coupled with a lack of both the desire and the capacity for spiritual development. Thus, those born under the Sign of Leo should strive to avoid the type of exaggeration that can debase their many inherent gifts.
The symbol…or glyph…of Leo has, since ancient times, been likened to the mane of a lion, or even its tail. However, it has also been thought to represent the two valves of the heart…the area of the body which Leo rules. Yet other interpretations of the glyph are that it is representative of the "serpent power" or creative force of the body in its coiled or dormant form, or that it symbolizes the heat or creative energy of the Sun, the celestial body which governs this Zodiac Sign. In Vedic Astrology, this glyph represents creativity and childbirth, likened to a sperm cell which is the creative power of life and heralds its beginning.

Also known as the Sign of the King or President, Leo is Positive in polarity (as are Aries, Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius). The general characteristics of Positive Signs broadly match those for the extrovert personality and such individuals are naturally more impulsive, buoyant, communicative and sociable than are the Zodiac Signs of Negative polarity (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces). However, Positive Signs rarely display the same levels of sensitivity or the same depth of understanding of emotional subtleties as do their Negative counterparts. Positive Signs tend to crave excitement and thus, are inclined to direct their energies outward into the world around them. Aries is the most flagrantly extrovert of the Positive Signs (with Sagittarius a close second).

All Zodiac Signs governed by the Elements of Fire and Air are considered to be Masculine in nature. Thus, Leo (ruled by fire) is considered Masculine (as are Aries, Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius). Masculine signs are traditionally conceived as being more active and less receptive than their Feminine counterparts which are ruled by the Elements of Earth and Water (the Zodiac Signs of Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces). Masculine Signs focus primarily on spirituality and activity…both in the physical sense and mental sense. Masculine Signs are said to be diurnal or day-oriented. Therefore the term "masculine" should be viewed in the same light as the Yang (or bright) Polarity of the Tao.

Leo is the natural ruler of the Fifth House of the Zodiac, often referred to as the "House of Pleasure" and known in Vedic Astrology as the "Good Fortune." This is the field of experience in which an individual is challenged to develop creativity and self-esteem…and to find joy in living. Essentially, it deals with fun, games, gambling, playing, acting, drama, hobbies, the theater and the use or misuse of creative energies. The side of an individual which is reserved for play…the side which only emerges when there is fun to be had and the work is done…resides in the Fifth House. By its very nature, this House reflects the charming and delightful side of an individual…where hobbies, interests and playmates may be found. In short, if something provides a person with joy, then it will be preserved in the Fifth House. By tradition, this House is associated with children, enthusiasm, creativity and motivation, as well as love affairs…both legal and illicit. The influence of the Fifth House creates a sense of excitement and the craving of pleasure. It also allows an individual to see a little of himself or herself in what has been personally created…anything from the smile of a son or daughter to a piece of artwork. The Fifth House is governed by the Planet Sun…not truly a "planet" since it is a star, but classified as such for the purposes of continuity in the science of astrology.

The opposite sign to Leo is Aquarius. From Aquarius, Leo can learn to share in a caring manner and occasionally leave "center stage" to others. Thus, can Leo natives learn to stand alone and value themselves.

The Leo female often has an almost stately bearing and is capable of achieving great elegance even though she is not necessarily interested in clothes as articles of fashion. There is a regal air to this woman, coupled with a sympathetic nature and good social qualities. Indeed, many female members of the British Royal Family have been born under the Sign of Leo…Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret Rose and Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, for example. By nature, the Leo female is passionate, loyal and loving when secure in the knowledge that she is loved. However, this woman can be exceedingly vindictive or bitter if scorned. Because the Leo female has such high standards in so many spheres of life, other people will rarely live up to her expectations. This does not necessarily worry the woman governed by Leo unless the individual in question is intimately involved in her life. This female is capable of showing love, forgiveness and kindness to complete strangers or mere acquaintances, but is often critical and almost unkind to those close to her if she feels they have failed her in any manner. The Leo woman strives to be a model of self-esteem, strength and confidence. She thrives on praise and frequently suffers without it. This female is a magnificent manager, organizer and leader…one who understands teamwork and can work well under the command of another, but will constantly harbor the ambition to be on top. In many ways, this woman is something of a "drama queen." Indeed, she sees the dramatic side of almost every situation.
Blessed with superb taste, the Leo woman would rather have one dazzling outfit than twenty cheap ones. In short, by her very nature, she is something of an extravagant creature and adores making a "grand entrance." Nonetheless, she has a deep and abiding need for respect from those around her and will work very hard at being noticed and remembered. She is likely to be surrounded by admirers at social events and will insist on being the center of attention at parties. Naturally vivacious, the woman governed by Leo can be overpowering at times with a magnetic personality that always seems to capture the limelight. There is something of a vain characteristic attributed to this female which tends to irritate others of the same sex and she can be arrogant and incredibly stubborn. However, she can also be incredibly generous and compassionate toward those who are close to her. To foster a good relationship with the Leo female, it will be necessary to ignore her shortcomings and dwell on her virtues. She adores being praised and, although many might perceive this as being hopelessly self-centered, in all reality with woman has an intense drive toward self-realization and possesses an unquestioning faith in her own personal values. In short, the woman who falls under the jurisdiction of Leo feels she was born to be special and is obliged to express this.

Perhaps the greatest lesson to be learned in dealing with a Leo female is that she refuses to be ignored. This is a proud woman who frequently plays "hard to get" and expects a great deal from her romantic partner. As a wife, the Leo female is often totally self-sacrificing and absolutely unselfish. As a mother, she may well be over-conscientious on occasion with a tendency to expect her own personal high standards to be displayed by her children. Nonetheless, she will never fail to be extremely loving and extremely affectionate, displaying immense personal wisdom and refusing to heed the counsel of others when it comes to the rearing and management of her children. In general, the mother who falls under the jurisdiction of Leo will be a paragon of gentleness and tenderness, displaying the utmost ferocity if a child is injured or even reproved by another. The female ruled by Leo will expect a great deal from her family members, but also expects to give of her utmost in return. This is an altogether wondrous, fascinating and interesting woman…a "golden girl" who likes to be free, independent and ambitious until she gives away her heart, at which time she will become completely self-sacrificial in her giving. Generally warm-hearted and exceedingly sympathetic, this woman may well insist upon a complete estrantement if subjected to neglect by her partner

When it comes to the choice of a partner, the Leo female is attracted by a male who radiates warmth and shows affection in a physical way. The interest is heightened if the male in question happens to be rich, famous, powerful and/or handsome…thus, does such a man’s glory reflect favorably upon the Leo woman. A male who commands respect will also be appealing to this female, as will one who is generous…as long as he can afford to be. The woman ruled by Leo may be particularly attracted to her boss or males who are leaders in some fashion. There is also a certain attraction here to men who are in the creative arena…actors, artistis, musicians or performers, for example. Regardless, any male who would win the heart of a Leo woman must be gallant, courteous and chivalrous…it would also be unwise to allow this female to get her own way all of the time. Females who fall under the jurisdiction of Leo are drawn to ambitious men who are admired and respected and she would rather be conformed than be a non-conformist. This is a romantic lady who can be shy of showing it…she has to be won through the old-fashioned style of love and chivalry.

Leo individuals, regardless of gender, are far better fitted for mental labor rather than manual labor. The fields of medicine are highly suitable given the fact that all Leo subjects are sympathetic and their patients become greatly attached to them. There appears to be an air of hope and love of life associated with all Leo natives, coupled with a personal magnetism that can easily sway the largest of audiences. In addition, the Leo woman (and man, for that matter) is often an excellent cook. However, as a general rule, the Leo female does not seek employment in the business world, preferring a domestic life. In short, this woman loves the home and is truly a home-maker.

As employees, Leo individuals will be most effective in promotion and sales. These are natural showpeople and will keep customers happy with their warm and sunny disposition. However, beneath the brave facade there normally lurks a secret fear that there is no true courage to be found. Nevertheless, despite this, Leo natives will persist with their extreme vanity and insufferable ego. They are invaluable in a crisis and suddenly, to the surprise of everyone, will usually show themselves to be the most steady of souls. Given the inherent fetish for authority, if those governed by this Sign cannot be the boss, then they must have a position where they can display their talents and abilities to the world in some fashion. If the role of executive or leader is denied, then Leo subjects will be happiest as teachers or salesman, for example. They seek occupations which will allow them to impart their superior knowledge to others in some manner or permit them to stand in the bright spotlight of publicity. Leo individuals will will work harder than anyone to keep a steady stream of compliments coming their way. Indeed, flattery tends to egg them on and bereft of same, they will perform to only half of their actual potential. As a boss, the Leo native expects to be at the top of the heap, frequently taking credit for the most creative strategy even if it were an employee who came up with the original idea. Nonetheless, courtesy of the Leo charm, most goals are achieved with no ill-will from others. Once those governed by this Sign receive every last ounce of credit they feel they deserve…along with some surplus respect…then they are generous in doling out praise to their employees. However, the Leo boss is also prompt to point out mistakes with little discretion. There will invariably be a trace of arrogance here, but it is usually tempered with good-natured optimism. Leo natives keep things humming and running smoothly. These are souls who were born to command and who possess an enviable talent for assigning the correct tasks to the correct people, as well as making sure that such assignments are finished on time. This individual can make for an entertaining boss, but one who is subject to fearful rages which can result in an extended period of pouting behind closed doors if any type of real or imagined insult has been perceived. However, the greatest weakness of a Leo boss is probably the tendency to be swayed by a giant dose of flattery. Leo individuals cannot bear to be ignored or underestimated. They are also not the kind to hide their light under a bushel. If tribute fails to be paid to the Leo vanity, then such natives will seek "greener pastures." Being in command is the strongest need here and Leo subjects will revel in receiving attention. If sufficiently placated, then they can be a delight to work for. As work colleagues, Leo natives will most likely demand a major share of the limelight and need to remember that there are many others who make up the organization. Thus, they cannot take all the honors. A tinge of envy is also likely to surface which needs to be tackled at the very beginning. Here, there will be a constant tussle in one-upmanship which, if not controlled, can prove to be very tough on the work colleagues of Leo subjects.

In terms of both making and spending money, Leo natives are no strangers to either process. Since they constantly strive to be centerstage, they find it vitally important to possess nice things and can be rather extravagant souls. Indeed, there is a love of beauty and riches here…and Leo subjects often seem to find themselves pampered with both. A home in the right neighborhood, driving the right luxury car, going to the right school and having children of whom they can be proud are all extremely important. Those governed by this Sign absolutely refuse to compromise with society or accept values that fall below their personal standards. Given their freewheeling style, the art of managing money does not rank high with those governed by Leo and there is a tendency to overspend. However, such individuals are generally resourceful enough to get back on track. If the need for funds should arise, then Leo natives would rather take out a bank loan than borrow money from friends. However, at the end of the day, it might well be that the secret to success for Leo individuals is to be found in their generous spirit. These natives would lend their last penny and are firm believers in the concept of "what goes around comes around." Always game for a risk, Leo natives will not shy away from the gambling den, provided they can carry home the day’s winnings. Here, such a gambling streak may not necessarily be a bad thing, so long as it does not interfere with the rather fragile Leo ego. Convinced that money exists solely to provide everything which is personally deserved, those governed by Leo tend to thrive on extravagance and will certainly find ways to make sufficient funds deemed necessary to indulge their desire for fancy and expensive playthings.

The most compatible stockbroker for those ruled by Leo is to be found among natives of Libra and Virgo.
Investments likely to make money for Leo individuals include utility companies, natural gas and its by-products, drug companies, advertising,
public relations and anything involving the entertainment industry…movies, television, music production, theme parks, computer games, etc.

Leo is also known as the Royal Sign of the Zodiac and these natives are proud souls who place courage and personal honesty above all else. Others may not always live up to the expectations of Leo individuals and thus, the life of a Leo subject is constantly subject to disappointments. Nonetheless, those governed by this Sign possess a radiant warmth which touches the hearts of friends and admirers. The Leo personality will open many doors throughout life and these natives welcome both authority and responsibility. This is the Sign of exuberance and idealism, denoting a powerful personality. However, as well as being high-minded, Leo subjects can also be high-handed and when they fall victim to their own shortcomings, the result can be nothing less than disastrous. Being impulsive, generous and brave, these natives are quick to follow their own intuition. Personal success is often furthered by the marked influence of those ruled by Leo upon all inviduals that they meet. Indeed, Leo subjects often win over opponents through the force of sheer magnetism. However, if such efforts are misdirected, then the result could easily be false idealism and the Leo benefactor is sometimes only a whisper away from turning into a tyrant. With a desire to "charter their own course," individuals governed by Leo follow through on this with an inherent vigor. They like anything which is active…including outdoor life…for Leo subjects crave the warmth of the Sun which is so predominant in this Zodiac Sign. They adore being in the spotlight…possibly because it is perceived as a miniature version of the beloved Sun…and seek out appreciation and affection with a zest equal to the manner in which they bestow these upon others. Nonetheless, Leo subjects will never fail to form their own conclusions and rarely give a thought to whether such a conclusion is right or wrong. In short, those ruled by Leo are prone to ride over their own faults so naturally that apparently, they are not even aware of such faults. In fact, the very exuberance of a Leo subject can manifest itself in the form of a show-off…but he or she will doubtless feel above any such criticism. Thus, when Leo natives honestly believe they are right, it is assumed that all critics must necessarily be wrong.
The type of love associated with those who fall under the jurisdiction of Leo is that which embraces the whole of humanity yet, this can present a danger in that Leo individuals are prone to diffuse such love and are often blind to where it is most needed…frequently closer that these natives might think. The nature here is inherently simple for Leo subjects are open in speech and can be rather tactless…a trait which those who form friendships with Leo subjects come to recognize as being symbolic of the honesty associated with this Sign. However, this self-same quality also easily garners enemies. To the Leo native, diplomacy is tantamount to guile…a trait which is personally detested but which the Leo individual often learns how to use. The worst fault of those ruled by Leo is that they can become very narrow-minded and bigoted, largely due to the fact that personal convictions are settled early in life and rarely become changed or modified at a later time. In addition, the greatest drawback to the Leo personality is likely to be indolence. They will revel in ease and luxury until they are forced into action either through necessity or due to their own self-imposed demands.

It is the Leo strength of will, energy and vigor which make these individuals one of the best types to lead in the world. The males possess soldierly qualities and the females are dignified and regal…especially after the "first flush of youth." There is a marked predilection here for all that flashes and glitters, coupled with the wisdom to realize that "all that glitters is not gold," making Leo natives usually successful in matters regarding monetary gain. In short, Leo subjects (particularly the males) make great leaders…for good or ill. The ambition inherent in this Sign is immense with a strength of will which matches or even surpasses this characteristic. Leo individuals appear…and usually are…humanistic by nature but, on a more negative note, often seem to display a streak of ruthlessness. Those governed by Leo will always stand ready to defend friends and family and the power of this Sign can override almost anything. Leo individuals rarely display jealousy…rather, they tend to invite it, thus throwing the burden upon their critics. However, these natives are easily flattered and often make the mistake of trusting false friends. Being accustomed to gaining results through personality and charm, these individuals are above anything petty but, if they find themselves slipping, will justify whatever measures they deem required in order to to retain what they feel is rightfully theirs.

At their most glorious, Leo subjects are big-hearted, passionate and generous souls, appreciative of loyalty and sincerity while withholding nothing of themselves…possibly because these individuals cannot abide hypocrisy or deceipt in others. They are devoted to high ideals, being honorable, conscientious, courageous and daring. In short, they live for the moment, savoring life to the fullest. However, for all these Leo virtues, its natives must strive to overcome an imposing dark side and those who fail to dispel the shadows may well become demanding, domineering, insensitive and destructive. This dark side of Leo can lead to a drowning of the individual in egocentricity and materialism, coupled with a lack of both the desire and capacity for spiritual development. In such circumstances, it will be necessary for the Leo subject to endeavor to avoid the type of exaggeration which can debase the many gifts inherent in this Sign.

In business, persons ruled by Leo offer unlimited prospects. They excel in the field of medicine due to the influence they hold upon their patients and succeed in many other professions courtesy of the inherent flair for showmanship, which can sway clients with the same type of effectiveness that will sway an audience. These individuals are also noted for their talents in the acting and literary arenas since they have a strong trend toward the dramatic. In addition, anything requiring promotion or enthusiastic development falls withing the domain of Leo natives for these are capable individuals whose enthusiasm is contagious. Indeed, those who fall under the jurisdiction of Leo are difficult to dislike since there is usually something about them which is exceedingly warming. The fiery Leo temperament is typical of the element by which they are ruled and these are frank, open, honest and very endearing souls. The warmth spread by Leo individuals will always pay dividends and to achieve their highest aims, these natives will need allies, collaborators, friends and backers. In short, Leo subjects were born to lead in whatever the chosen sphere might be, but they must be sure to choose that sphere very carefully.

The secret fear of Leo subjects is that they will not be perceived as important individuals. In general, however, this is an affectionate Sign complete with a lively and sunny personality which brings joy and life to any dull day.

The Leo female possesses a flair for the dramatic and clearly has little use for the routine and ordinary. She tends to act as though she is always on stage, basking in the spotlight so everyone who is anyone is sure to be aware of her presence. She may want to be head of the house and at times, behave in a totally unreasonable fashion in order to get her own way. Still, she will listen to reason if her good heart and generosity are appealed to. Affectionate, kindhearted and sincere, women governed by Leo have a deep love of children and make for excellent mothers who adore their homes…but when it comes to being domestic, they prefer being served rather than serving as mistress of the castle. This female is plainly an incurable romantic, forever in love with love…but such love must include affection. Personally magnetic, she has no problem in attracting potential mates…and if any mate should become jealous of her many admirers, it would be best to not let it show. This is because the Leo woman believes, on some level, that she is entitled to as many compliments as others are willing to shower upon her. This is a female who likes to be admired, but cannot abide a mate to chastize her for simply doing what comes naturally. Although she may appear to want to be won, it will be necessary for any potential partner to allow this woman to do the winning. Being involved with a female ruled by Leo will certainly enhance any mate’s skills at courting and seduction…provided such mate possesses sufficient wisdom and stamina to survive the course. If an individual would achieve true happiness with this woman, it will be necessary to display pride at her many accomplishments…and be proud of her on a personal level. She requires virtually constant flattery and devotion. Never ever must she be catigated or criticized in public…to do so marks the certain kiss of death for the relationship. Similarly, a partner must never try to deceive this woman in any way whatsoever. She possesses a high degree of honor that should never be trifled with…and should she find any mate unfaithful, then that mate is doomed to spend much time in the doghouse.

The Leo woman is usually blessed with an almost stately appearance and can achieve great elegance…although she is not necessarily interested in clothes as articles of fashion. This female possesses a rather regal air, a sympathetic disposition and excellent social qualities. The woman ruled by Leo is a passionate soul who can easily be loyal and loving when in a secure relationship where she feels she is loved. However, she can become vindictive or bitter when she is scorned. Because this female has such high standards in so many spheres of life, other people rarely come up to her expectations. Still, this is not usually a source of worry to her unless the individual concerned is one with whom she is intimately involved. The Leo woman can show love, forgiveness and kindness to complete strangers or mere acquaintances and yet, may be critical and almost harsh to her loved ones if she feels they have failed her in some way. This is a female who is proud, hard-to-get and expects much from any partner but she has the ability to be self-sacrificing and totally unselfish in a long term commitment. As a mother, she tends to be overly conscientious on occasion, expecting the usual high standards from her children…nevertheless, they will never lack love or affection. There is no doubt that the Leo woman expects a great deal of her family, but she is also prepared to give of her utmost in return. Altogether fascinating, this female is something of an ambitious golden girl who likes to be free and independent…until her heart has been won and then, she is self-sacrificial in her giving. For a relationship to last, it will be necessary for any potential mate to be gallant, courteous and chivalrous. Proud and domineering from time-to-time, it would not be wise to allow this woman to constantly get her own way. She desires a partner who is ambitious and well-respected in society…and she prefers traditional conformity. Romantic, but often shy of displaying as much, the Leo female can be won with true old-fashioned love and chivalry.

As a Fire Sign with Fixed Quality, Leo individuals express themselves in a cultural and creative manner. These natives are often gifted painters, playwrights, actors or designers. However, regardless of the occupation, there is always something of the performer in Leo subjects. They treasure uniqueness and feel obliged to put their individual "stamp" upon whatever they do. Leo takes the initiatives generated by Aries and arranges them so they continue to be effective. Yet, at the same time, Leo manages to retain authority. Thus, management is a function frequently associated with Leo natives. The fixation of this particular Fire Sign centers around the pride, pleasure and rewards of being creative. Here, the Element of Fire is somewhat confined, resulting in individuals who are not as implusive as Aries natives and not as likely to fall victim to "wanderlust," as is the Sagittarius native (both of whom are also governed by Fire). Indeed, a Leo subject can be much more single-minded that either Aries or Sagittarius and burns with a greater intensity. However, Leo individuals do crave being in the spotlight and possess an affinity for praise and applause. While Aries is courageous in action, Leo is courageous in expressing passion and a Leo native who is prone to shyness may well become frustrated if he or she does not have a channel for expressing passion…although a quiet but satisfying hobby may be all that is required.

Those who are born under the jurisdiction of Leo tend to retain their youth and exuberance of spirit until well toward the end of their lives. Indeed, in many cases, these natives give the illusion of appearing to grow younger as they actually become older. As a general rule, Leo subjects are of average to slightly above average height with strong, excellently-proportioned and well-sculpted bodies. They are also blessed with broad shoulders and finely-shaped heads, which may be rather large and roundish. They possess strong and pleasant voices and walk with a quick and buoyant step…although the movement itself may be somewhat slow and deliberate, as is their speech. The overall stature here is altogether rather distinguished, being regal and dignified in bearing. The skin of Leo individuals will customarily be healthy, the complexion ruddy, rosy or flushed in many instances, although it can occasionally be light in color. In short, natives of this Sign easily attract the attention of others in a physical sense.
In many respects, Leo natives very much resemble their animal counterparts, tending to be broad at the shoulders and trim at the hips…rather like the anatomy of a lion. There is often something of a "strut" to the walk here with a tendency to puff out the chest and hold in the stomach. One unmistakable trademark will be the very erect and upright bearing of the upper torso, neck and head. The hair, fine of texture and usually wavy, is customarily somewhat light, being either blond or reddish in color. Regardless, it almost always distinctive in some manner…perhaps sweeping gracefully up-and-out, away from the face in mane-like fashion, or laying close to the head, scooping decidedly across the forehead. The eyes, commanding and fearless with a sometimes trace of haughtiness, are usually quite beautiful with a soft and friendly expression. Normally brownish in color, they can also be blue or hazel and customarily possess a slight tilt at the corners. The eyebrows may be thick and rather well-formed while the teeth are usually white, somewhat large and evenly-spaced. The Leo nose is generally straight with a tendency to aquilinity (or a slight "hook"). The whole expression of these subjects is known to be "leonine," combining a regal self-assuredness with an almost disdainful nonchalance. The Leo voice is full-toned and the speech pattern somewhat decisve and often quite commanding. In short, others tend to listen to Leo individuals and obey…partciularly when they "roar" like a lion.

Leo natives are generally robust with all faculties and proportions (particularly as concern physical appearance) in balance and harmony. The Greek culture instinctively recognized this, making their Sun Gods, Apollo and Hercules, models of the human form. Physically, Leos are strong and have abundant energy and fire which is reflected in their swift movements. The constitution of Leo natives is generally very strong and even if they fall ill, they recover very quickly. They are often handsome creatures and take great pride in their good looks. However, there is a tendency here to put on weight after a rather "streamlined" youth. The smile of Leo is customarily broad and beaming, the walk and carriage being rather regal…full of pride, dignity and, on occasion, somewhat pompous in character. Leo mannerisms are often described as "catlike," and its subjects may be inclined to knead cushions and pillows or stroke such materials as velvet while licking the lips in abject satisfaction. Such natives may also unconsciously rub or scratch their necks and heads when upset or nervous.

Leo natives count among the most talented, most blessed and most lovable people to be found in the entire Zodiac. Indeed, some of the greatest men and women the world has ever known were natives of this Sign. They are possessed of highly emotional natures as well as vigor, buoyancy and excellent health. With their commanding character, sound judgment, and generous and magnanimous manner, Leo individuals make for natural rulers and leaders. They have a very pleasing personality which is sure to inspire confidence and their agreeable manners enable them to gain many favors which would be withheld from others.

To some extent, the above descriptions are influenced and affected by the qualities associated with the Decan into which the Leo individual falls.

A subject born within the Third Decan (August 12 to August 22…also known as the Aries Decante of Leo), is likely to be rather short and stocky in terms of body shape. The nose is customarily either aquiline (or hooked) or what is described as "button." Indeed, the short body and nose shape are the key physical elements in identifying the Third Decan Leo individual.

From an early age, the little Leo possesses a sunny disposition and ready enthusiasm. Generous and warm-hearted, this child is fond of open displays of affection and generally very loving. With an inherent gift for organization, small Leos like a certain amount of fixed routine in their lives and, if left to their own devices, older Leo children will doubtless be organizing the entire household. The tendency to be bossy is something of a common trait here. It is not unusual for even the youngest of Leos to put other children…and even adults…quite firmly in their place. Sibling rivalry with a young Leo in the household can be a very real occurrence. However, the confidence associated with this Sign is often not quite as strong as it appears. Much of it may be bluff and these little souls are hurt and deflated surprisingly easily. Criticism of this child must be gentle and undertaken with humor and affection in order to avoid a severe crushing of confidence. Leo children should be actively encouraged to listen to the opinions of their peers, even if such opinions are not personally shared. This can be a very dogmatic and quite narrow-minded Sign, particularly when it comes to favorite topics. Thus, it is important to encourage breadth of vision from an early age. It may be somewhat difficult for a caregiver to distinguish the stubborness of this little one from determination…stubborness needs to be gently eased while determination should, of course, be encouraged.
If the Leo child shows a particular interest in any hobby or pasttime, it is almost assured that this will be an interest to last for many years, if not an entire lifetime. The enthusiasm of this Sign is confident and very stable and such children do not seem to "come and go" as much as their peers. However, since little Leos are often fixed in their ways, it is vitally important to establish good childhood habits in terms of diet, exercise and manners, etc. It will be very difficult to change the behavior of this child once he or she reaches the teenage years and beyond. There is an extremely powerful creative urge present in this Sign and it would be a shame not to encourage this little one to express his or her creativity. Not all Leo children will be artistic and, indeed, there is a distinct difference between being "artistic" and "creative." This child may excel at painting, drawing or crafts, but could equally excel in stage productions, the kitchen, the garden or in the fields of sewing, story-writing or inventions.

The vitality of Leo is strong and children who are governed by this Sign are usually brimming with energy, possesed with a tendency to be bright, alert and constantly "on the go." Good sleeping habits are paramount since even very young children are apt to "burn themselves out." The heart and the back are areas of the body traditionally associated with Leo and such children should exercise both of these areas on a regular basis in order to remain healthy. Forms of exercise which contain a creative element…dancing, ice-skating and gymnastics, for example…are especially appealing to the little Leo and should be encouraged.

The Leo child will undoubtedly be exceedingly sensitive, self-willed, talented and intuitive. Thus, any caregiver should strive to teach this little one self-control while, at the same time, presenting an example of right living. A strong hand is required with these children in order to afford them guidance and to guard them against the many evils and vices to which they are prone by nature. Their minds and hands should be continually employed with pleasant, wholesome and useful tasks, keeping in mind that the child who falls under the jurisdiction of this Sign will need varied amusements to constantly be supplied. Every effort should be made to provide the correct training and restraint in order for the little Leo to develop into the grand and noble character which he or she is so capable of becoming. While these children learn quickly, they are not fond of studying.

Of course, as this little one grows, the personality will develop. There is a tendency here to be high-tempered and caregivers need to be cautious of exhibiting impatience and/or anger in the correction of this child. As he or she reaches maturity, there will be an abundant display of vigor and determination, coupled with a love of drama and plenty of exuberance.

The Ruling "Planet" of the Sun gives the children of Leo a naturally warm-hearted and fun-loving personality. In short, these little ones are full of life, which can frequently get them into mischief. Being very sensitive souls, they require a great deal of sympathy and, if such is withheld, may become so combative that it results in an ungovernable nature. Since Leo is one of the Fire Signs (together with Aries and Sagittarius), any child governed by this element will need to learn patience above all else. Second in importance will be to learn respect for the rights and feelings of others. Last (but certainly not least), children of Fire should be afforded every opportunity to work off excess energy…play, sports and dancing are all excellent avenues. Talk works much better than punishment with Fire children. In fact, too much punishment can easily result in a rebellious and "wild child."

Luck is defined as that which happens to a person…an event, good or ill…which affects an individual’s interests or happiness and which is deemed causal. It is a series of such events which are regarded as occurring by chance, fate or fortune…often, a person’s habitual or characteristic fortune. It has been said that luck is better than skill.
In Greek Mythology, the Goddess of Luck is Tyche, known to the Romans as Fortuna. She is often portrayed holding a double-sided rudder that could steer mankind to good or bad luck. She also frequently holds a cornucopia (horn of plenty) to symbolize prosperity and is sometimes blindfolded to indicate that luck is a matter of "blind chance." In addition, Tyche occasionally sports wings to symbolize how good fortune might be fleeting. A ball, representative of the manner in which luck "rolls according to chance" is often associated with this Goddess. Tyche is said to teach the paradoxical message that life is essentially a game of dice, determined by chance, and that nothing is ever set in stone. No matter how certain an individual might be that something will happen, there is always an underlying element of chance, and it would be wise to expect the unexpected. Instead of submission to Fate, Tyche provides the encouragment for individuals to take things into their own hands, thus making their own destiny. In was in Tyche’s temple that the first set of dice were dedicated by Palamedes, perhaps indicating the capriciousness of life and luck…and the fickle manner in which the fortunes of mortals are often decided.

The lucky number for Leo is one (also known as the Monad or God of All Numbers). Associated with the Sun (this Sign’s ruling "Planet"), one is the number of Divine Purpose, the number of Creation and the number of Unity. One is the beginning of all counting and the root of solitary forces. It is the symbol of identity, harmony and conservation, having no parts and being individual by nature. The number one is rarely found in Northern mythological and runic references, although it does contain the first rune of all three Aetts, therefore making it a positive principle in theory. One remains constantly stable and firm…it is the immutable number, the same until infinity. To the Greeks, this number represented Khaos, the primeval state of the universe prior to the separation into positive and negative. One is representative of both the beginning and the end, as well as being the symbol of homo erectus, the only species to walk upright. This number may be found in images of standing stones and the upright staff. In mathematical terms, if a number is multiplied by itself, the product is always a larger number and the square of a number is always greater than the sum of its addition to itself. However, in the case of one, the result of mutiplying itself by itself is smaller than the result of adding it to itself. One multiplied by one will always remain one, whereas when it is added to itself, it becomes two. Thus, by itself, one is not conscious of itself, but by mirroring in the other…the two…and the experience of duality, one does become conscious of itself. Therefore, this number is symbolic of the state of wholeness, but is unaware of itself and possesses enormous inner potential to strive for realization. One is the first Prime Number and is divisible only by itself. It is also its own square and cube root. The circle (which has neither beginning nor end) is the figurative symbol of this number.
In biblical numerology, one is the Number of Unity. It is generally believed to signify the "one God" but is also associated with "one faith" and "one baptism," as referenced in Ephesians 4:5.

One is masculine in nature and, when associated with Leo, resides in the Fifth House of Creative Expression and Social Popularity…the House of the Heart. The colors associated with the number one are all those within the yellow, orange and brown families. Its peak tends to be during the daylight hours, with its natural element being fire and its associated gems being rubies, topaz, yellow diamonds and amber.

The lucky colors for Leo are gold and orange…colors which emanate from the Sun, this Sign’s ruling "Planet." The Sun represents the life force and is the visible symbol of the Cosmic Creator in the solar system. Gold is traditionally associated with royalty, symbolic of the color of the heavens and has historically been used to decorate statues of the Buddha and religious temples. This color is also said to be representative of pride. Gold is believed to attract positive influences, evoking the sensation of looking upon waving fields of ripened grain stalks. It is also connected with justice and career matters. In heraldry, gold is symbolic of honor and loyalty.

Orange is said to promote friendliness and is representative of sunsets. Symbolic of marriage, it is credited with being the color choice of intellectuals, as well as the favored color of the brave. In addition, orange is believed to be indicative of energy, balance, warmth, enthusiasm, flamboyance and the demand for attention, as well as change and flexibility. The color of fire and flame, orange is representative of the red of passion tempered by the yellow of wisdom. Thus, it stimulates and creates reactions associated with both the physical and the emotional. In general, this is a color which strengthens…full of force and health…giving the impression of the constant flue of energy. It helps to focus the mind on issues of physical comfort…food, warmth, shelter and sensuality, for example. It is basically regarded as a fun color, but can focus on the more negative aspects of deprivation. This is particularly likely when warm orange is used in conjunction with black. By the same token, an excess of orange suggests frivolity and a lack of serious intellectual values. It is the hottest, widest, most pleasant and positive color. It reflects the balance of will and possibility. Rich orange is symbolic of consciousness, ripeness, abundance, happiness and sexuality. It ensures, supports, and evokes appetite…it awakes but does not excite…and tends to embrace space. The second color in the spectrum, orange corresponds to the form of the wide rhombus that joins the diversity of yellow and the strength of red. In heraldry, orange is symbolic of strength and endurance.

Leo individuals tend to prefer solid blocks of bright, positive and powerful color rather than complicated patterns. Leo natives are also drawn to colors traditionally associated with royalty…regal shades of red, blue, purple and gold, for example. In short, Leo is associated with warm colors in general, or warmer shades of the cooler colors…very rich mixtures of blue and purple which lean more toward the red than the blue. There is also a tendency to be drawn to all things which are bold, bright and rather "splashy."

The lucky flower for Leo is the marigold, also known as the Herb of the Sun, symbolic of passion and creativity. It is a hardy plant whose blooms are usually yellow or orange, but can be reddish or brown in color. Many individuals find the scent of the marigold to be offensive. Thus, scientists have developed an odorless variety. The marigold often referred to in literature is the "pot marigold" and is mentioned in Shakespeare’s "A Winter’s Tale." It should be noted that the marsh marigold is not a true marigold since it belongs to the buttercup family. In the West Country of England, these flowers are known as "The Drunkards," due their reputation for turning people into alcoholics when the blooms are picked…or even looked at for any length of time. The Welsh traditionally believed the flower could be used as a weather omen. If the flowers were not open early in the morning, then a storm was on the way. The marigold was formerly used as a love charm, and incorporated into wedding garlands and posies. It was also once believed that to rub the flower head on a wasp or bee sting would alleviate any pain. The marigold is often used as a companion plant with tomatoes to keep away pests. Legend states that the blossoms of this flower open only from nine in the morning until three in the afternoon. Water made from marigolds, when rubbed on the eylids, was once thought to aid an individual to see the faery folk, and some cultures would add the flowers to their pillows in order to encourage psychic dreams.

By tradition, the marigold is associated with the lion…an animal legendary for its courage and brave heart. It was referred to as Mary’s Gold by the early Christians, who placed these flowers around statues of the Virgin Mary, offering the blossoms in place of money. It was believed that Mary used the flowers as coins. In India, the marigold is offered to the Hindu Gods, Vishnu and Lakshmi, particularly during the month of December. This flower was once worn by witches and healers to protect them from the Plague and is thought to be most effective when used in spells to stop gossip…or to bring about softer words from one who tends to be sharp-tongued. It is also said to promote cheery conversations and to bring a potted marigold into the home where relationships have been turbulent is said to assist the couple to talk together instead of at each other. The marigold was also once mused in potions to fight against smallpox and measles. In the language of flowers, the meaning of the marigold is comfort of the heart and sacred affection. However, it can also symbolize cruelty and jealousy.

One legend associated with the marigold is found in the story of the Holy Family’s flight into Egypt. During their journey, they were accosted by a band of thieves who stole Mary’s purse. When the robbers opened the purse, however, marigolds tumbled out. Indeed, it was once believed that to wear marigolds after being robbed would enable the individual to "see" the perpetrator. The marigold is representatative of the golden rays of glory that are often depicted around the head of the Virgin and is used in all the major festivals associated with the Mother of Christ.

The lucky gemstone of an individual is truly associated with the month of birth rather than the Sign under which a person was born. The original association of a special gem with each month was recorded in the Bible (Exodus 28 and 39). An original Breastplate of Aaron, High Priest of the Hebrews, was said to be made by Moses in 1250 BC, according to instructions he received during his forty days spent in the mountains. The twelve gems in the breastplate were later linked with the Signs of the Zodiac and later still, associated with the months in the year. What follows describes the breastplate of the High Priest:

It was square — a span [22 centimetres] long and a span wide — and folded double. Then they mounted four rows of precious stones on it. In the first row there was a ruby, a topaz and a beryl; in the second row a turquoise, a sapphire and an emerald; in the third row a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst; in the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx and a jasper. They were mounted in gold filigree settings. There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
(Old Testament, New International Version, Exodus, Chapter 39, vs. 9-14)

The lucky gem for Leo individuals born in August is the sardonxy. They share this fortunate jewel with those Virgo individuals who were also born during the same month. The sardonyx is also referred to as the Gem of Courage and the Gem of Virtue. A blend of sard and onyx, this stone is found worldwide but the best specimens are mined chiefly in Brazil, India, California and Uruguay. The color bands of sardonyx are white against a black or brownish-red background and it is usually cut into beads or used to fashion cameos and intaglios (reversed cameos). Indeed, the first cameos ever discovered were fashioned from sardonyx. The name derives from the Greek sard and onyx, which means "brownish red" and "white stone."

According to legend, sardonyx aids in communication and provides its owner with elegant speech, as well as being a valuable ward against evil. Thought to calm relationships, as well as being credited with the power to attract friends and good fortune, this stone is believed to bring happiness to couples. It is also thought to increase regeneration, intuition and instincts. In addition, sardonyx is credited with decreasing sexual desire and promoting a change in bad habits. Once considered to be a charm against such assorted afflictions as warts, boils, cramps, the "evil eye" and the wicked thoughts and impulses of witches, this gemstone was a favorite of the Ancients and used by the Egyptians to carve scarabs and beetles which would be worn as talismans. Exceedingly popular and greatly valued throughout antiquity, the sardonyx was held in high esteem by the Romans who used it as material for carving, particularly in the manufacture of seals since it was said never to stick to wax. Roman legions would carry sardonyx images of Mars (God of War) or the valiant Hercules into battle to guard against evil, bring good fortune and hopefully bestow the courage and daring of such heroic figures upon their armies. During the Renaissance, the sardonyx was thought to eloquently bless those public speakers who chose to wear it. Perhaps the most famous sardonyx in history is the one carved with the likeness of Elizabeth I of England and set within a gold band which the Queen then presented as a memento and keepsake to one of her favorite courtiers, the Earl of Essex.

Sometimes referred to in modern times as the "fancy wallpaper of nature," the early astrologers believed that sardonyx was a gift bestowed upon the Earth from the planet Saturn…doubtless due to the multi-colored bands which adorn this stone. Useful in the art of mental self-control, this gem is traditionally said to aid in the cure of depression and anxiety but is particularly helpful in the easing of grief. Associated with the Apostle Paul, sardonyx is purported to have been the fifth of the Foundation Stones of Jerusalem. Today, the supply of traditional sardonyx appears to have drastically dwindled and the majority of modern stones are cut from South American agate, modified in color by artificial treatment. Onyx is the traditional gem for the 7th Wedding Anniversary, while black onyx is the traditional gem for the 10th Wedding Anniversary.

The lucky day for those who fall under the jurisdiction of Leo is Sunday. In ancient times, certain tribes in Southern Europe were unable to explain the warm ball of light that appeared in the sky each day, so they determined it must be a gift from a great god. Thus, they named the glowing orb sol, which is Latin for Sun. In celebration of this God, they also named a day of the week in his honor and called it Dies Solis, Latin for "day of the sun." Later, the people who lived in Northern Europe also decided to honor this ball of wonderful light, but in their non-Latin language, the day was known as Sunnandaeg, although the meaning was the same. This eventually translated to Sunday.

Many early cultures worshipped the Sun and the Gods which represented its power. The Babylonians believed that the first hour of the day was ruled by the Sun and since ancient times, it has been designated as a day of rest. Sunday is considered to be a holy day by the Christians, due to the fact that Christ was reported to have risen from the dead on this day. Nonetheless, the name "Sunday" truly has nothing to do with Christianity. The Ancient Greeks were well aware that the Sun was the source of life on Earth and they gave it prime importance in their thinking.

There are several holidays traditionally celebrated on a Sunday, including Mother’s Day (second Sunday in May) and Father’s Day (third Sunday in June). These began to be celebrated in 1914 and 1924 respectively. Easter Sunday is an ancient holiday, officially designated by the Church in 325 A.D. Its position on the calendar has long been a source of confusion for lay people. The date is calculated by taking the first Sunday after the first Full Moon on or after the 21st day of March. In some parts of the Great Britain, a festival known as Whitsun (or Pentecost) is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter. It commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit in the form of flames to the disciples, as recorded in the New Testament and is sometimes referred to as the birthday of the Christian Church. Whit Sunday is a favorite day for baptism in England and since the traditional color for baptisms is white, it is thought that the original name of this holiday might have been "White Sunday." According to an ancient rhyme, Sunday’s child is bonny and blithe and good and gay.

Leo chiefly governs the heart, upper area of the spine and the back in general. The heart is traditionally associated with warm emotions and the back with courage. Needless to say, Leo natives display both of these desirable qualities in abundance and are blessed with an open personality…one which gives wholeheartedly of itself to others and lives life to the fullest. Moderation should always be the keynote for Leo natives and if such a regime is followed, then the reward is likely to be a very long life. However, there is a tendency here to toward excitement and any form of over-indulgence should be avoided. Possessed with magnificent vitality and a robust constitution, those ruled by this Sign usually make a quick recovery from ailments and/or injuries. Nevertheless, these natives are subject to organic weakness, cramps, palpitations, spasms of the heart and possibly the occasional bout of fainting. Other ailments common to those governed by Leo include scrofula and other skin diseases invariably caused by poor circulation and impurities of the blood. Violent fevers are also quite common among Leo individuals, as are spinal troubles, weakness of the back, lungs and kidneys. There may also be present such conditions as a torpid liver, convulsions, apolplexy, pleurisy, gout and janudice…all manifestations associated with an unfavorable mode of living and lack of self-control. It should be noted that there is also a need here to be wary of hypertension and such ailments as hardening of the arteries and blood clots. These natives may also fall victim to varicose veins and chilblains in cold weather.
Leo natives often push themselves so hard that they suffer strain from over-exertion and nerves. Here, the upper back is likely to tire more easily than any other area of the body. There is also a tendency to experience pain and pressure around the heart. Indeed, when startled, the heart of a Leo subject will seem to almost "jump" into the throat and it is not unusual for such an individual to feel the pulse beat inside the head. Leo’s ruling planet, the Sun, has always been associated with the heart, back and spinal column and thus, also influences the spleen and vitality of the entire body. Given that this Sign is characterized by growth, vitality and good health, Leo natives are customarily noted for their longevity and healthy lives. However, they must learn to slow down in later years in order to avoid the risk of heart attack. Individuals governed by this Sign enjoy the good life and eating well is a part of such enjoyment. In short, they like rich foods and fine wines. Fortunately, young Leo natives are likely to have a strong stomach and good circulation, coupled with the tendency to keep in shape because, by nature, they are inclined to be active individuals. However, in time, such over-indulgent habits will invariably take their toll and it will be necessary for the Leo subject to learn how to eat correctly and cut down on fatty foods. In addition, being inherent leaders and commanders, Leo natives tend to burden themselves with much responsibility and work-related pressures. Thus, they are often so single-mindedly busy pursuing career objectives that it can be detrimental to their health.

The gland ruled by Leo is the pituitary, located in the head within a small and bony structure which shields and guards this most important gland. The frontal or ante-pituitary is believed to be the seat of the reasoning mind or intellectuality. The post-pituitary is believed to be the seat of the emotional and imaginative nature of an individual. The pituitary controls growth and is essential to life. A lack of development associated with this gland is said to result in both emotional and mental deficiences.

The cell salt for the Sign of Leo is magnesium phosphate. This mineral keeps the motor nerves in excellent functioning order and is also necessary for the formation of the skeletal structure. It forms blood albumen and maintains the fluidity of the blood, as well as activating the digestive enzymes. Lack of magnesium phosphate can result in diabetes, mental confusion and difficulty in coping with simple day-to-day problems. Indeed, depressed and suicidal people often display inadequate levels of magnesium. Foods rich in this mineral (and therefore extremely beneficial to the Leo individual) include: whole wheat and rye products; almonds; walnuts; sunflower sees; figs; lemons; apples; peaches; coconut; rice; seafood; beets; asparagus; romaine; and egg yolk. Foods which aid the circulation and contain blood-making properties are also essential to the health of Leo natives and such foods inculde: beef; lamb; poulty; liver; fresh fruit; salad greens; cheese; whole milk; and yogurt. Other recommended foods include: spinach; raisins; and dates (which are rich in iron); and plums; pears; and oranges (which aid in the reduction of heart strain).

To remain healthy, it is vital that the diet of those who fall within the jurisdiction of Leo be uniform, wholesome, sustaining and carefully watched. All spicy and/or stimulating foods and drinks should be avoided, coupled with the practice of temperate habits and harmonious surroundings…all of which are essential to the health and happiness of Leo natives. Above all, they should guard against over-exertion and excitement. Everything should be undertaken in a quiet, calm and orderly fashion. The vital forces of the Leo body need to be kept under control since when its tone becomes lowered, colds and serious ailments are prone to result. In general, those governed by Leo find it relatively easy to relax. They seldom find themselves in a rut but, when they do, it is usually because they are alone…by nature, Leo is not a "loner." These individuals can easily "let off steam" by engaging in some type of energetic activity…be it via sports or socializing and, indeed, they tend to find the art of being social highly enjoyable. Thus, a flourishing social life is very important to those governed by this Sign. Since Leo natives love to meet new people, they like to join societies and/or clubs…often find themselves running such organizations at a later date. Dancing and athletics are also recommended activities for the Leo individual and they tend to excel at both.

Leo subjects are basically adaptable souls who can make the most of any environment, but these natives are probably at their most healthiest and happiest living upon a hilltop. Flatland areas have a tendency to make those governed by Leo feel "low" in spirits.

God is a comedian

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

While waiting at the gates for a flight bound to Singapore, I was surprised to see an old ‘Foe’ approaching the gate where my flight is. This can not be!, I told myself. Sucker, Bravo 1 just sat on the waiting are of the same flight im going. Oh the name? Its the code name me and my one of my best ex-colleagues gave this guy. Then memories came flashing back to me. He was a colleague of mine when i was working with this another company before. I thought he was a nice person not until I learned he was also just like the others, an evil one. He started the beginning of my downfall and my team lead’s downfall in that company. That is why we despise him. So how is this connected to God is a comedian? When I moved companies, guess what? Bravo 1 works on the same building where I work. Worse, we share the same elevators at most times. And found out he works 2 floors below where i work. Another funny thing his ally, another ex-colleague who finalized my extermination at the company joined Bravo 1’s company. Ill call this 2nd ex-colleague Bravo 2. So in short I ride the elevators with either one of them. They became enemies within a year  (that’s another story) because I don’t see bravo 2 anymore in the elevator. Oh i just ignore them just like any other stranger i ride with on the elevators.. I dont feel mad or pissed when i ride with them at the elevator..I just feel funny :) Oh the names? Bravo 1 and Bravo 2 .. got it? B1 and B2 the unseperabale bananas and pajamas.:p Sometimes God just want to tick us off … and remind us that in every good thing there is always evil. And a reminder that without them we are not where we are right now ;)

Ok back to the airport, so that was another way to tick my nerves that i saw him again in the place i did not expect. So while waiting for the boarding call, I sent SMS to my best colleagues that were there at the same time during the terms of B1 and B2. Rey wished me luck and John told me to stay away so I will not get any negative energy, I told them wish me luck in the seating plan, i hope he is not my seat mate. I was praying hard, i checked in online anyway so i got my sit prior on-ground check in. And then, guess what?? my prayers were heard. He was not my seat mate!! BUT, I was almost sitting beside him side by side on the same aisle. He was seated a row before me at least he did not get the satisfaction to mock behind my back (yep i am paranoid! ;o ) i told my self, God you really want to make me laugh. I was laughing quietly inside of myself. Another reminder, devils visit heaven, good flight, at least its not a hell in heaven experience :)… just funny

If i am not doing a nerdy work, these are where I’d love to see where i’d be

Ulan
Cueshe

Lagi nalang umuulan
Parang walang katapusan
Tulad ng paghihirap ko ngayon
Parang walang humpay

Maalala mo sanang may
Nagmamahal sayo—ako
Lalalalalalalalala…

You are your cellphone

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

It has been almost 5 years that I have been working with the mobile / telecommunication business.  But it was just like weeks ago, that it donned me that how our relationships with our mobile phones.

Before I finally felt security with my job, I asked, will this job be a long term career and will give me security, my college buddy Rey who is on the same river as i am right now told me that as long as their are cellphones, our job will never get out of fashion.  He was right, the business has been exponentially growing.  Be it for the operators or the mobile vendors.

Everywhere we look right now, everybody have their own cellphone.  Be it the your dad, the taho vendor, the yaya, or even the elementary or prep pupil they own cellphone, be it for calling or texting.  One trend of the business promos often are released during the days when the students have their allowances.  The students make most of the population that download the mobile content.  You can also observe that right now, students would even prefer saving their allowances for load of their cellphones.  I can not even comprehend some of the ‘escorts’ means of payment are ‘pasa load’ in exchange of their sexual services to their customers.

Speaking aside, cellphone made most of our ways of living easier.  Text messages killed the telegram business.   Cellphone meant able to communicate with our loved ones in not of the most expensive way.  It made meeting someone in one place easier without the chance of missing the person on your rendevouz.  These are some ways cellphones are important and became part of our lives.

Cellphones are now not just a telephone where you can call and text.  Now these devices has been created as glorified cameras, and music player or radio and yes mini computers.

I remember when there was this cellphone service to locate someone.  You do not know exactly if there are really some people who use this service.  Surprisingly, there has been a lot of married woman who activated this service on their cellphone’s and their partner/husband’s cellphone.  I can remember someone told me that one day he was surprised to meet this wives of military men came lining up on their doorstep taking the mobile phones of their military husbands to have the ‘Where Is’ service activated.  Surely there has been sad stories after the service has been activated in those cellphones and I do not want to know.

Another reason why some people hesitate to embrace the technology of 3G and video call on your mobile phones.  The advent where price of calling using a telephone TV before was so expensive that it can be actually used by anybody now.  Some philandering husbands/partners are against this because they can be caught where they are actually now, away from the excuse before that ‘yes Honey i am at the office’ but now the caller can see visuals of evidence.  Anyway, pathological unfaithful partners still will be able to escape this scenario.

Again, in one of the homilies in on of the sunday mass ive attended, there is one painful and funny truth the priest shared.  Nowadays for example you dress your cellphone and take care of it very well that you feel really bad when it falls to the floor and you can not stop kissing it after saving it from the fall, that undescribebable dive you make just to save your phone.  But when your wife falls from the stairs all you do is stare and say ‘ayan tatanga tanga ka kasi.’  Or sometimes we forget our mobile phones at home.  And that some aside from missing business calls at work, some would die in anxiety because they are scared that their home staying wives might read something from their cellphones or see something that might wreck the family.  This is how intimate some are with their cellphones that they have created a special bond between them and theirselves.  that they Already have created secret between them and their cellphone.  But when it is their wife or monther was left home it is easier to say ‘She would just follow, she is old enough.’
Also, did we ask ourselves and looked at our sent items or inbox, who’s name is mostly in that folder.  Well i hope these are the people that are dear to you.  I am not being a self righteous bitch, but i guess it is not wrong to grow up and realize the reality of the becoming of the society’s morals and the cellphone.

Very surprising that people right now have a very different sense of values for relationship.  It seem that some or most of us even love their cellphones more than the people who are important to their lives.  Whatever how our relationships we make with our cellphones, we should think that it was made to connect people.  And remember that most of the commercials of this communicating device it revolves around human relations.  The importance of friendship, family and professionalism.

Six years ago, i was one of the individuals in our barkada who doesnt carry a cellphone and almost everybody have their own phones but me.  I did not see the importance not until I was blessed to having an opportunity to get my first post-paid cellphone free as a provisioned from work,  Right now, I am even more thankful for not just having the communication gadget, but i am more than happy to be one of the ambassadors of Nokia phones and should always keep in mind the social and moral responsibility that comes with the position.

Politics is ugly and dirty

Friday, August 4th, 2006

In the Philippines we call our traditional politicians as TRAPO synonymous to a rag cloth.  True?
Everything is fine not until politics is injected.  For example, at work, everything is going all fine when personally the manager do not like you or they starting creating rumors or making something big deal related to a  work related mistake you’ve made, isnt that politics?  Then what happens next? someone looses job, or you need to stick up with it or you need to kiss somebody else’s ass.

Oh i will not even go on describing the politics of each country … the main reason i stopped reading newspaper.  Except ofcourse for the comics and the obituary.

I tasted my first politics when i was in grade 6 in elementary.  Having created a line up of my own political dynasty… yes my sister was in the line up and two of my cousins.  Of course even how much effort we put into the campaign, the party lost to a friend of mine Lila, our Valedictorian.

Two of my grandfather’s named John were in Politics before.  We grandchildren, helped the family and for them to win during the campaign period.  Well i told you its ugly, the opposition won, they bought votes.

When i was in my senior Highschool,  I cried, I lost again the Presidency against my rival Fidel.  My dad said its ok, Politics is dirty so i should concentrate in my studies instead, i can go on with my life without it.  I guess it was even the same school election period my sister Christina were in a different political party and she was mad at me because there were political rumours i can not remember, all i know she was mad at me. Too painful for me that she belives her party mates than her own sister.  I told you Politics is ugly.  Oh about her being mad? we grew up and i bet she forgot about it as well.  The following morning after they were able to count the ballots I got over my loss, and went on with my senior geeky life.  But then the oppossition’s supporters can  not accept that there was just one vote difference between me and Fidel so they wanted a recount.
Well they did.  guess what? I turned out to be the victor.

My intention in running for the position aside from getting the credit for the extra curricular activities, i think i do make good as a leader.  Service and leadership (fine fine.. before i hear someone objecyting! hehe :p).  I did not run because of power, wealth and authority.  Sitting in the position for a year was not that easy. It was dirty like cleaning dirty dishes in the kitchen.  A lot of times i cried mostlt because of rumours and difficulty of getting support from schoolmates or the faculty.  Its not just in the the student body, I was also competing for a position in the school paper, i guess i thought i was hoping i would land in the better position, but unfortunately I wasnt the favorite writer during that school year.  Even having to have served the school organ 4 years of my highschool, i did not get the job i wanted.  But yet i dutily accepted and did my responsibilities.  My competitors and my opponents were not just ordinary school mates of mine, they were my friends, they were my barkada.

I realized in politics, there is not family, there is no friendship.  Politics talks.

Starting from that day on, I gave up my dream to become an ambassador of our country (oh yea i am ambituous :p).  Being in politics is not carrying out the ideals.  Its not even service. I am dissapointed to see what the world of politics really is.

None of my grandfather are now politicians as well, like me, they got dissappointed.  Even some suckers tell them to run this coming election, they just wont.  I dont think this ass kissers will vote right, their right to suffrage are priced anyway.

I know someone who always tells me before he wanted to run as the governor or the congressman.  I asked him why? because he thinks the power, authority and able to get this WOW vehicles in expense of the people’s wealth is enough reason.  I always tell him i do not want to be his friend if he becomes a politician everytime he brings up the topic.  Well now, i do not know, he is not yet a politician, but who knows, but he is not my friend now. (i dont friend him na)

Politics is not the word i thought when i was younger.  Even how much and how often you throw your rag cloth into the washing machine or to your labandera or replace it, a rag cloth will always be a rag cloth.  Dirty and ugly.

Self-sufficient, independent = alone?

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

So who stays with you? –me, my shadow, and myself
So you are alone? yep!
questions that always comes next after they ask me where do i stay …
I am expecting these questions and at least i know what to answer
no failure, its all the same answer whoever asks

on the other hand, Celeste, my youngest sister asks, "So you have a water dispenser in your ‘house’?"
(well take note that my ‘house’ will always be in quotation marks because its not a house…lol its a unit(?) i rent)
and I said yes why? and she asks "Then who carries the 5 gallon water mounting it on the dispenser?"
My mom interrupts, "Who do you expect will carry for your sister?" … well yes of course me who else?
(Well even i was staying with someonelse before, If i can I will .. well i am not gloating)
Celeste scratches her head and said .. "ang hirap naman"

well maybe, its just something you need to live with, or you die (well not really, its survival of the fittest remember?)

Highschool friends said, I do have nothing to do but Blog everyday!
well yea.. aside from a constructive outlet of blah … as i said, I leave alone
so who do you expect i should talk to? well yea ok, I have this stuff animals I sometimes talk to if i am really bored
But intellectual (naks!) thoughts i am left with no one to talk to everyday
yep, that is same as through when I flood or spam your mobile phones with forwarded messages and mailboxes
some get annoyed, some just miss my spam mails
just like another bachelor friend i have who just bought his 2 bedroom condo unit, his officemates comment to him he is TOO bubbly when he gets to work everyday
well because he doesnt have anyone to talk to at home …

Anyway, just this Monday, I caught flu, from the bad weather.  I still went to work i thought i can, i was running on fever but still i continued work till the day ended
i got home i had a bad fever, but i was feeling chilly.  Drank medicine.  My mom and my ing my sister was accompanying me through the phone
I even joked her, that every care instruction she sends me through sms, I should be charged with 2.50.  I told them, I will be fine, should my fever not go down, I will bring myself to the hospital.
Good heavens, fever went down, after 1 bioflu and 1 alaxan.

In relation to the experience, I remembered the episode of Sex and The City when Miranda transferred to her newly bought Apartment in Brooklyn.  She learned that the previuos owner of the apartment was an old maid, and discovered dead days after she died, and worse half of the woman’s face was eaten by the pet cat.
Mortified, Miranda kept feeding her cat, making sure that critter’s bowl was full.  The same setting, Miranda was eating his Dinner, when she got choked, naturally no one was there to help her. She panicked but smart Miranda still figured out and survived.

Thing came to me, that it is possible that should I die or be in an accident (i am not asking spare me) in this unit, well it would difficult and would take at least probably a day before someone will know.

You think its pathetic? maybe.

At work i know a lady colleague who is separated, one day she had a bad migraine, he went to the hospital the Doctor confined her and put to sleep.  the next day, she was hysterical, she lost her mobile phone.  the medicine is too strong and she can not remember where she last placed it.  Good thing when she called the Doctor, it was with her doctor.
then the doctor said, "Misis, sa susunod, wag po kayo pumunta dito magisa."

Let me go back in a jeepney ride with a friend, Neil, during my college days, I told him, it is better to go to a co-ed school (I went to a co-ed school in my high school and most of my friends in college came from the University’s all boy school and all girl school).  Then he said, its better  to be in a exclusive school because you will not depend on the oppossite sex to do the chore of an oppossite sex.
i remembered that convsersation, and then told myself I guess, my parents just did fine, putting me in a co-ed school.  Despite of that i can depend on myself.

But I realized, is bieng a self-sufficient person a strength of an individual.  Maybe.  maybe not.  We can do it on our own, and at times we do not allow these people who claim to ‘like’ or ‘love’ you to do the rest
and Maybe they realize they are not needed in our life. I do not know.  just a thought.  But does that mean we need to fake that sometimes we are in need?  And or can we blame ourselves for training ourselves to be self sufficient to survive in this cruel challenging world.
tricky.  i do not know..
